The Company Live at Abreeza Mall

The Company, Asia’s premier vocal group, is now celebrating 30 glorious years in the music industry since it started in 1985. The 12 founding members of the Company were all alumni of the Ateneo College Glee Club under Master Joel Navarro.

The original members of The CompanY were members of the 1981 and 1983 touring batches of the Ateneo College Glee Club (ACGC). Their musical director, Moy Ortiz, named the group after Stephen Sondheim‘s musical Company. The group focused on contemporary jazz and a cappella music, instead of songs from the classical and traditional choral music repertoire that they performed under the ACGC.

I am a proud “Atenista” here and a member of Glee Club in Ateneo de Davao University in college. I am an alto because that is my natural singing voice but I can also be a suprano.

Fangirling moment as I took photos with the current members: Moy Ortiz, OJ Mariano, Sweet Plantado and Annie Quintos.

They sang some of their biggest hit tracks like Muntik na Kitang Minahal, Now that I have you and Pakisabi na lang. These were all my favorite that I memorized all their lyrics.

The group recorded a no. of songs that pushed musical borders during their stay at Ivory Records. I really have strong memories of their music and easily recall their lyrics.

I was fortunate when my dear friend and Mall Manager, Ms. Ruby Ochoa, invited me to watch this mini-concert. I got excited and I was seated on the front row seat with my two daughters and a family friend, Joyce Mariscal who was also a fan of the group. I got a good glimpse up close and personal of their faces which I think did not change at all through the years. Their voices were still the same for as long as I can remember.

We enjoyed listening to their songs which brought back memories and dance to their rendition of modern Christmas songs which uplifted the mood of the crowd until the end of the show. My daughter loved their songs although she was not familiar with it. She told me that these are the kind of songs that are meant to last in the industry. And I truly agreed.

After the concert, we had an opportunity to take a photo with them onstage afterwards because there were already fans approaching them. They were so nice to us and they made it a point that everyone could take a picture.
